Monitoring MySQL replicating in Linux is never easy, usually you will login to SSH and then go to MySQL console and type “show slave status” to make sure that your slave is replicated nicely. When talk about monitoring, what in my mind is having a PC with big LCD monitor, and I can see all my MySQL replication server status all over my screen, and whenever there is an error in replication (Duplicate Key Error, the one I hate the most), I can easily notice it, and fix it immediately without my getting my customer’s attention. Actually, this isn’t that hard to achieve, here are the tips to let you monitor your slave status without keep on hitting “show slave status”.

$ watch --interval=1 --differences 'mysql -uuser -ppassword -e "show slave status\G"'

Use the one below if you have different path for mysql.sock, especially when you are using mysqld_multi to run multiple mysql server.

$ watch --interval=1 --differences 'mysql -uuser -ppassword -e "show slave status\G"' -S /var/lib/mysql/blabla/mysql.sock
